Homework!

Hi there and thanks for stopping by!
I hope you are having a great week. Mine has been pretty good so far.  I am back to teaching on Wednesday nights at my church after having the summer quarter off and it was great to get back in the room with all our sweet kids.  On Wednesdays I pick Emma (my grand) up from school so that she can attend church with us.  We don't have a lot of time since it's a school night, but we make the best of it.  Today we ran a couple of errands, got a snack, completed her homework, got her showered (because it's kinda late when I get her back home), grabbed some supper, and went to church. Then I dropped her back home....all between the hours of 3:00 and 8:30!  And here I am, burning the midnight oil and getting this posted in the wee hours of Thursday morning - good thing I don't have to take her to school!

Emma is in the 2nd grade this year, and of course, there is more homework than last year.  She will be having more of those "special projects" and reports than she did last year. So, I made her a little something to help her stay on track....

Emma can hang this in her room and hopefully it will remind her of upcoming projects and tests!  This was really easy to put together....

* I started with a plain 11 X 14 art canvas and gave it a couple of coats of red acrylic paint
* After the paint was completely dry, I added a fun layer of school related paper for a mat
*I used "Elegant Edges" to create the blue, scalloped mat and the black mat which is Chalkboard paper from DCWV
* The letters are cut from "Nate's ABCs" are are also cut from the Chalkboard paper

* The stack of books is from the "Recess" cartridge and I added some Glossy Accents to the apple.
* Pretty much everything got stitching lines and dots from my white gel pen.
* And, a bit of white rick-rack adds a nice touch
* I love the Chalkboard paper*

* I punched holes in each of the two top corners and threaded this cute ribbon through, tying the knots on the front side of the canvas.

And there you go...instant homework reminder!
Ok, I really do need to go to bed now.  I might not have to take Emma to school, but Lola (my spoiled little Yorkie) will be demanding my attention bright and early!  Hope you have a wonderful day and I'll be seeing you soon!

Until next time,

  1. Wow, Tanya. You have more energy than me. This is such a cute project....and totally practical, which is highly appealing to my I don't want to dust it if it doesn't have a function attitude. ;) I saw that DCWV chalkboard paper pack and picked it up, put it down, picked it up....you know the drill. And I am sorry to say, put it down won. That almost never happens. Now I have to kick myself yet again. I shouldn't put stuff down. :) Thanks for the fab directions. I am so bad at posting those, but love that you do it. lol. Take care, busy Grandma. Emma is lucky to have you!
