Hi there and happy Monday to you.
Wow - it's Monday...again? How does that happen so often? Those Mondays sure do seem to roll around faster and faster these day.
I hope you had a great weekend. Mine was pretty busy and the next few weeks don't promise much of a let-up. But, that's okay - busy is good. I thought I would take today to share with you what I've been working on for the last 3 months or so. My hubby and I, along with a very special friend, spend about 3 months each year working on the set for our VBS (Vacation Bible School) program at our church. This year we used the "Wilderness Escape" theme and last night was our "VBS Kick Off Party". At the party we reveal the set, let the kids sing a couple of songs and have a sign up for volunteers for the VBS program. It's a lot of work and a lot of fun - the kids have a blast! So, I thought I would share a few pictures of our set with you today....
We have been building these sets for the last 5 or 6 years, and this is not my favorite, but I do love how our palm trees turned out.
The "mountains" are made from 3/4 inch foam insulation panels as are all the "stones"
The palm trees are made of carpet tubes, cardboard, kraft paper and lots of cement in buckets!
We found these cute little sheep online somewhere - I really don't remember where at this point! They sat on my living room floor for a few weeks before I carried them to the church. My Lola (Yorkie) didn't quite know what to make of them!
Fortunately for us, we have an avid outdoors-man in our church who built this tent for us. I'm not sure what we would have done without his help! You really can't stake a tent on a gym floor (the Elders tend to frown on large holes in the floor) so John figured out how to stake the tent to 40 pound bags of sand. Heavy to move in, but very effective! Those stakes quiver when you touch the lines, but so far the tent hasn't budged!
Our VBS program will start on June 1st and run through June 5th. It's a great program and so much fun, I wish you could all join us! Thanks for letting me share my pictures with you - now you know why I have been a slacker on blog visits! Let me get through the next few weeks and I'll be back to visiting and commenting again. Have a great day and I'll be seeing you soon....

ReplyDeleteI don't see you slacking to much on your blog girl! You seem to get it all done-send me some mojo will ya? Or should I say some "time" just to get in my craft room. We are so buys working on shower invitations for one wedding, centerpieces and wedding favors for another and then working on same things for my son and finance's wedding! I will definitely be ready for a break from all the wedding stuff! Ofta, that is the only thing on my brain right now!
Have a great day Tanya!

ReplyDeleteHello Tanya,
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you all had an awesome time! Do you all still have the Wilderness Escape Starter Kit? We are interested in doing this particular VBS next year – just planning ahead – but it is no longer available at retail. God Bless. Monique
Hi Monique,
DeleteI'm sorry to say that we no longer have the kit. In past years, we have passed along pieces of the set along with parts of the kit to other churches on a tight budget. You might have some luck on Amazon or EBay. I hope you are able to find it!
