Alabama Squaredy Cat

Hello and welcome to Studio 5380.
I've got something new to share with you today...a history lesson!  That's right, a brief Alabama history lesson.  Okay, let me explain before you run away ...lol!

Our very talented Ann from SVG Cutting Files has been super busy creating dozens of adorable little Squaredy Cats.  During the month of July, the DT will be showcasing Scaredy Cats from several different states.

My granddaughter, Emma will be entering the 4th grade this year.  Each year 4th graders here study Alabama history. So, I thought I would use the adorable little Alabama Squaredy Cat to create a storage box for Emma's projects.

I started with a plain black photo storage box available at most craft stores.
Now, for that history lesson I promised - I used a star background for the shape of Alabama and scattered stars around the box in honor of the song "Stars Fell on Alabama".  This was a very popular song back in the 30's about the Leonid Meteor Shower that was observed over the state of Alabama in November of 1833.  The song title was also stamped onto Alabama car tags from 2002 until 2009 when it was replaced by the title "Sweet Home Alabama".

The cute little Alabama Squaredy Cat is wearing a space helmet to represent the US Space and Rocket Center located in Huntsville, AL.  This place is amazing - my son attended the summer camp they run (many, many years ago) and had a blast!
If you look closely, you can see the acrylic I used for the shield of his space helmet.

Okay, so enough with the history lesson!
I used a white gel pen to add a few dots and squiggly lines around the top of the box.  I also added a bit of glitter to the stars scattered around the box.  I think this turned out so cute and I'm hoping Emma will enjoy using this storage box for all her Alabama History projects.

Thanks so much for stopping by and bearing with my brief, but...oh..so...exciting history lesson!
You can see all the adorable Squaredy Cats Ann has already created by visiting the SVG Cutting Files Store.  If you don't see the state you are looking for, be sure to check back as Ann is adding them to the store weekly.
