God Bless America

Hello everyone and Happy Memorial Day to you!
What a great way to start the week, honoring those who gave all so that we might enjoy the freedoms available in our wonderful country!

Before I get started with today's project, I just wanted to tell you all how much I have appreciated all of your kind comments about my recent dental work.  I loved every single sweet comment!  And, I as I write this, I am feeling so much better. It took several days for the soreness to go away, but I can finally drink COFFEE....yea....happy days are here again! Ok, here we go....

This week our "Challenge Me Monday" over at Fantabulous Cricut Challenge Blog is all about Memorial Day.  Our challenge to you this week is to create a project using the color RED and anything that reminds you of Memorial Day, such as a flag, a military symbol, a poppy, etc.

I decided to try something a little different for this week's challenge.  During one of my online shopping sprees research missions, I came across a cute, unfinished, wooden flag at Oh My Crafts.  When I saw it, I knew it would be perfect for this week's challenge....

I started with the wood cut outs from Oh My Crafts....

(photo from Oh My Crafts Website)

I used my Tim Holtz Distress Stains to "paint" around the edges of each wood piece...

Then, I flipped each piece over and traced it onto patterned paper.  I cut each section just a bit smaller than what I had traced and inked up the edges.  Using Mod Podge, I adhered the paper to each wood section.  Next, I used some "Tacky Glue" to adhere all the wood pieces together.

Paper info:
* The red stripes and the blue corner are covered with paper from the "Vintage Nation" paper stack by The Paper Studio.
* I just could not find the off-white paper that I was looking for to use on this project. So, I grabbed some Bazzill cardstock in an ivory color and used my stamps to add a little detail...
* Pink By Design - "Script" Background stamp
*Pink by Design - "Oh Boy" stamp set (that tiny little star!)

I also stamped the "Script" background onto another sheet of Bazzill cardstock and cut out 50 stars at .75 inches using the "Stand and Salute" Cricut cartridge. (It probably would not have looked so crowded if I had cut the stars at .5 inches. Oh well, live and learn!)  I inked up the edges and glued them into place.

The phrase "God Bless America" is also from the "Stand and Salute" cartridge.  This cut was made at 3.5 inches.  I used pop dots to adhere the phrase to the flag so that it would stand out a bit.

I really like the way this project turned out!  And, here it is on a shelf in my family room....

Now I see your COOL creation and it makes me want to drag them out of the craft box and create what you made.... Of course we both know thats SOOO NOT gonna happen! LOL But at least now when I finally do take them out of that craft box I can totally "CAS" this idea from YOU! Have a wonderful day my friend & thanks for inspiring me yet again! :o)
